MAHALE NATIONAL PARK
A mighty natural wonder in Lake Tanganyika
Mahale Mountains is one of the most remote and most beautiful national parks in the whole of Africa. The green forested slopes flow from the peaks to the white-sand beaches on the shoreline of the Lake Tanganyika. Its about 75 miles away from Kigoma town and can be accessed by boat along the lake or by flight.
Mahale is one of the best location in the world for viewing Chimpanzee and all safaris inside the park are done on foot through the forests.
The Chimpanzee is an endangered species because of the rapid habitat destruction.
Only around 100,000 – 200,000 exist in the wild.
Like us, Chimps are hightly social animals, care for their offspring for years and life span over 50.
In fact, Chimpanzees are our closed cousin; we share about 98 percent of genes.
